Campaign for gender sensitization of Men and reducing violence against women in Marathwada, Maharashtra

Amongst violence against women, domestic violence is one of the few phenomena which cut across all the cultural, socio-economic, educational, ethnic and religious barriers. It is one of the most pervasive of human rights violations, denying women equality, security, dignity, self worth, and their right to enjoy fundamental freedoms. In India too, amongst the different types of gender based violence, prevalence of domestic violence is very high nearing 37.2% The consequences of domestic violence against women are all encompassing To address and overcome the violence situation and rebuild own lives, the women survivor of violence often need a host of support services but on account of lack of political will, sensitivity,skills,correct perspective neither the State nor the community provide them with these support services.To ensure that the necessary support services are available for the women survivor of violence, the project proposes to focus on activating the service providers appointed under the Indian laws ,civil society organizations and the community members.
Project Focus:
i.) The service providers appointed under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act provide services to the women survivors of domestic violence.
ii.) Need based support services are available to the women survivors of domestic violence at the community level. The women survivors of domestic violence approach the service providers with courage and confidence.
